What Else Is Here?

The question that knows.

You're good at questions.

It's part of how you climbed.

What's the problem. Where's the gap. What's the fix. Who do I need. What's it going to cost.

Those questions work. They isolate. They narrow. They close on a target.

And they got you here.

But notice what they share.

Each one begins by looking for something that is missing.

A diagnostic question assumes the answer is somewhere else. Outside the room. Waiting to be found, retrieved, brought in.

So you go get it.

You always have.

That's a good mode.

It may simply have taken you as far as it can with what's calling now.

There is another kind of question.

You've probably asked it without noticing.

What else is here?

It doesn't hunt. It slows down and explores. It knows something is already present, and that you haven't finished looking.

The difference isn't in the words.

It's in what happens after them.

A hunting question closes the room.

It says only the answer counts. Everything else in the space becomes noise.

An open question changes the room.

It widens. Suddenly the room holds more than the problem. It holds what you stopped noticing while you were busy solving.

It deepens. You stay with what's here instead of reaching outside for the answer. And staying is where the next layer is. The first thing you feel is rarely the thing.

Then you see. Something already there. In front of you the whole time, waiting quietly outside the beam of the question you'd been asking.

This is why the questions matter less than the room they open.

So much of the work begins there.

Not with clever questions. Not even the right ones.

Open ones, asked in enough space that something can actually arrive.

You'll bring your own.

The ones that have been yours alone.

The ones that may have been waiting for enough room to be asked.

And I'll hold the room while you ask them.

You've spent years learning how to solve.

And solving looks for what's missing.

Nothing is missing.
